Hi Everyone!
Well, I am just catching onto this blog thing. Better late than never right? I have been reading through the old ones & looking at all the pics, its fun to see everyone! I cant believe how big the VanKampen kids have gotten!
I am leaving for Israel on Wednesday afternoon. I am flying from Springfield to Cincinnati where my friend Spencer lives. We will fly to Atlanta Thursday, and from Atlanta to Tel Aviv. I think the flight is about 13 hours. Im excited to go, but a little nervous about this trip. There was a bombing over Easter in Tel Aviv at a restaurant next to a bus station and 8 people died. We are renting a car though, Spencer did a semester abroad in Israel years ago so he kind of knows his way around. We cannot take the car into Palestinian areas though, it is forbidden by the rental car agency, and we are not going to drive it to Jerusalem either, just not a good idea since it will have Israeli tags on it. To get to Bethlehem we will have to take a bus, which is what we are trying to avoid, public transportation is not the safest there & usually where the bombs happen. Im hoping now that Easter has passed things have calmed down, we wont go to Bethlehem unless we feel safe about it, or any other of the places for that matter.
We are going to Jerusalem first, then Tel Aviv, then to a couple of villages outside, Ceaseria & Jaffa, and of course all the other popular places in between. Spencer has a digital camera so I will send links to Shutterfly where he posts pictures after we get back & you can look at those, Im still using a 35 mm camera. I may have to get a digital camera before my next trip!
Ill keep you updated along the way from my hotmail account. We can go to internet cafes every so often & check e mail etc. I wont be able to post pictures from there however as they dont allow you to download to the computer etc.
Ive got most everyone on a travel list I created in Hotmail. But I need Deanna's, Debbies, and Candice's email addresses if you will send them to me, and Maranda's too. I think that should cover it.
Love James
