Surgery

Its easier for me to post this stuff on here & explain it. Im having neck surgery next Thursday at St Johns. The neurosurgeon specializes in a type of surgery where they go in from the back of the neck, its a little more dangerous and more complicated, but the results are better. When I had a fusion almost 8 years ago they did it from the front. The problem now is 2 compressed nerves directly above the old fusion, on 2 different vertebre levels.

He thinks he can make 2 small incisions and do all of this with a tube and a monitor, if not he will just make a larger incision, he wont know for sure until he gets started. He will remove disc tissue and bone also. The recovery time is 6 weeks, so I will be out of work that long.

The doctor is about 32 years old, he is really excited about the operation because he doesnt get to do this type very often, they are more challenging and more fun for him I guess! And it is what he trained for. Anyway the best part is that this is going to put an end to my pain for years to come. I may end up with another fusion when I am 60 or 70, but he just does not want to do that now because of my age. I should have very good results, and there will be no restrictions after it heals. I can go back to weight lifting and excercising after the 6 weeks is over!!!

  • James that sounds painful, but if it will make you all better than its worth it. Love you & I will see you next weekend. Danny's surgery was due to the fusion he had 7 years ago. The area above the fusion had become weaker instead of stronger & was crimping the spinal column. Thankfully they corrected in time. Any longer & he would have had permenant nerve damage.

  • Thanks! Im sure it will be fine. The reason they are removing bone is so they can have access to the areas they need from the back of my neck. Also there is a bone spur so hopefully he will remove that too. Brent, I may need some help with the yard work, I have a lot of people that will help so maybe everyone can take turns mowing it.

    Love you guys
